The story that we are going to narrate now happened in the summer of 1992. As the local train pulled away from Sealdah station at 4.10 p.m. nobody knew that this would also lay the tracks for Punarmilan Utsav of Ramakrishna Mission Boys’ Home Rahara Praktani. Few alumnus of RKM Boys’ Home Rahara were travelling in the same compartment in that local train.
One of the alumnus, Suman Kr. Roy was returning home after attending a ex-students reunion event of the NRS Medical College and Hospital. The group in the train were in the middle of their chat session when Suman Roy was struck by an idea of hosting a similar alumni reunion with his friends of RKM Rahara Boys’ Home. The idea was accepted with great enthusiasm by Suvendu Kanjilal, Suman Ganguly, Chinmoy Chakrabarti, Rajib, Rajesh, Sandipan, Rabin, Subhajit. The idea thus born was converted into a reality by the endless efforts of the above group along with Shankar Dhar, Nabinananda Sen, Rabindranath Dey, Goutam Mukherjee, Subham Pal, Ashes Kalyan Dey, Subhajit Majumder, Rathin Talukdar, Ashok Mukherjee, Prabir Dey , Kallol Chaudhury, Raja Banerjee, Manabendra Biswas, Achinta Banerjee, Ashis Banerjee, Janak Narayan Neogi to name a few. We offer our gratitude and thanks to all who had put their sincere efforts in that point in time for making this dream come true. The list of names will cross the boundaries of this page. We also pay our gratitude and thanks to Swami Gyanalokanandaji Maharaj (then Head Master), Shri. Santosh Chandra Battacharya, Shri. Alok Kr. Neogi, Late Amol Sarkar,Shri. Sudhindranath Maitra and other teachers. Without their immense help it would not have been possible to host such an event.
In May 1992 the first Punarmilan Utsav was hosted by the alumni in the school campus. An unexpected number of alumnus attended the first event thus hosted. An Alumni Association was formed. Since then the Punarmilan Utsav was hosted at the school campus every year till 2002. From 2003 to 2009 the event could not be hosted due to unavoidable circumstances. The year 2010 saw the rebirth of this event. The school campus was full of happy faces. Once again the stage was set like the past years.
The credit for the 2010 Punarmilan Utsav goes to the students of 2006 batch who worked day and night to make this dream come true following the footsteps of their seniors. This year the students of 2007 batch have come forward to do their part.
It is our responsibility to carry on with this event every year and so we make an earnest request to all to join and share their happy school life memories with us and also bear responsibility in any form or shape to make Punarmilan a happy and successful event in the years to come.
